Study Shows Dental Implants Improve Quality of Life

If you need to restore missing teeth, you might wonder whether you should choose dentures or dental implants. While dentures and bridges were the only choices in the past, dental implants have become the preferred treatment for millions of people. If you’re looking into dental implants in Grapevine, TX, it’s important to consider the long-term improvements in quality of life for implants versus removable appliances.

Dental implants are known for their durability and high success rate, but also for their ability to promote bone growth in the jaw. However, dental implants also improve the satisfaction for patients, according to a 2017 study in the Journal of Clinical and Experimental Dentistry.

Dental Implant Satisfaction One Year Later

In the study, performed at the Department of Prosthodontics, College of Dentistry, AlJouf University, researchers asked participants with missing teeth to complete a questionnaire about their satisfaction with various markers prior to receiving dental implants. Participants were asked to complete the same questionnaire one, two, and three years after their dental implant surgery.

A lower score on the study's questionnaire indicated higher satisfaction with each marker. After one year, participants showed significant decreases in negative markers, and the scores continued to decline at years two and three. There were no differences between men and women's scores, and older participants had the highest level of satisfaction. Scores decreased for the following markers:

  • Functional limitation
  • Physical pain
  • Psychological discomfort
  • Physical disability
  • Psychological disability
  • Social disability

Dental implants are a long-term, reliable treatment option that provide natural-looking, highly functioning replacements for missing teeth. It’s no wonder that many prefer them as an alternative to removable appliances.
